Three profitable facilities across two states and more than 75,000 square feet.

Daniel led research and development while helping build and operate three simultaneously profitable indoor-farming facilities across two states, totaling more than 75,000 square feet. During his tenure, he also designed, constructed and managed dozens of demonstration farms throughout the United States while advancing crop programs, nutrient strategy, lighting evaluation and production problem solving.

Artesian Farm

Co-founding an indoor hydroponic vertical farm built for profitable operation.

In 2019, Daniel co-founded Artesian Farm and served as Chief Science Officer. The indoor hydroponic vertical farm continues to operate profitably today. Daniel developed and constructed new hydroponic systems and led procurement, crop strategy, nutrient development and standard operating procedures.

Berrien Processing Solutions

Science leadership across cultivation and CBD extraction.

In 2019, Daniel co-founded Berrien Processing Solutions and served as Chief Science Officer for an operation that maintained a 100-acre hemp farm and used ethanol extraction to produce CBD distillate.

Cai Foods

Indoor wasabi development from concept through harvest.

Cai Foods contracted Daniel to develop an indoor wasabi farm in Michigan. His work covered every stage of the project, from initial concept and system development through cultivation and harvest.

Collaboration on LED concepts included tunable spectra, crop-stage programming, transition logic and application-focused evaluation. The work connected fixture capability to plant response, operating practice and commercial use cases.

Publicly discussed work has included media-free cultivation and challenging crop development across leafy greens, roots, herbs and specialty crops. The emphasis is on repeatable plant performance and an honest operating case.

Technical work made understandable to students, operators and decision-makers.

Daniel helped build and operate a demonstration farm in Hammersmith, London during the 2012 Olympic period; designed and constructed demonstration farms and delivered curriculum to STEM schools in Indiana; and lectured as a guest speaker at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
